Peter McDermott is Professor of Education at Pace University’s School of Education in New York City. He is a former Fulbright Scholar to Bosnia-Herzegovina and a former President of the New York State Reading Association.

 

He has taught literacy in urban high schools and adult education programs, and for many years he co-directed an after-school literacy program in a public housing project.  He has extensive experience with the International Literacy Association’s projects in Kazakhstan, Tanzania, and Sierra Leone.

 

His research interests pertain to urban education, international education, and arts integration.  Pete has additional interest in strategies for integrating digital literacies into classroom teaching. 

 

His recent publications appear in Educational LeadershipJournal of Ethnographic and Qualitative Research, International Journal of Educational Research, Reading Psychology, and the Educational Forum, as well as in regional and state journals. He currently teaches courses in disciplinary-based literacy, childhood literacy methods, and teacher-inquiry.
